Top 100 Filipinos to Follow on LinkedIn for Inspiration and Learning 2020
By Virginia Bautista
In collaboration with Marketing In Asia
Every year, the world’s largest network of professionals, LinkedIn, continues to grow not only globally, but also in the Philippines. With more than 722 million members now in 200 countries and territories worldwide, LinkedIn currently has more than 8 million members from the Philippines.
With the pandemic this year that has forced people worldwide, including the Philippines, to work and study from home or stay inside the house for now more than nine months — with no sign of going back to the norm during the pre-COVID time — I have noticed a significant increase in the number of Filipinos who are actively sharing content and engaging with other people’s content on LinkedIn.
And although we have all felt the impact of the COVID-19 crisis, it didn’t stop many Filipinos on LinkedIn from showing up, educating others, inspiring the community and making everyone in the platform know that whatever it is that we’re going through, we are “in it together.” And this, to me, is worth noting.
Now, more than ever, Filipinos who continue to show up for the community on LinkedIn despite all the challenges deserve to be recognized.
They are the ones, who, in the face of job losses, businesses shutting down and tough times this year, choose to show up, educate, share insights, learn from others, inspire the community and spread hope and positivity.
During these challenging times, this collective effort of showing up for the Filipino LinkedIn community is super valuable to the point that it can actually help “save” other people’s lives on so many levels.
For this reason, I find this initiative much more relevant and timely this year. To further recognize Filipinos this year, we have also decided to give SPECIAL AWARDS as special recognition to deserving Filipinos on LinkedIn: The Most Inspirational award and The Most Engaging Posts award.
The Most Inspirational Filipinos on LinkedIn in 2020
To select this year’s Most Inspirational Filipinos on LinkedIn, representatives from VB Consulting and Marketing In Asia selected ten out of the Top 100 in the list based on several criteria including the engagement on their recent posts and their consistency in sharing engaging posts on LinkedIn.
And then, from the 10 who were shortlisted, we invited the LinkedIn community to vote for the ones that they followed. Voting was open on Nov. 11-15, 2020. Out of 1,625 who voted, the three with the highest number of votes receive the awards — TOP 3 MOST INSPIRATIONAL FILIPINOS on LinkedIn.

What do you do?
I am the Managing Director of Amplius Management Consultancy. Amplius is the Latin word for “Greater”. We offer services in the areas of Management Consulting, Market Research, Organizational Development, and Training. We are distinctive as we offer Evidence-Based and Science-Based Solutions, using the methodologies of Neuroscience and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).
What do you use LinkedIn for?
LinkedIn is the best platform for developing Business Connections in the fields of my interest on a global scale. I have connections in the fields of Neuroscience and NLP in all the continents of the world. This enables me to stay current and relevant and it provides a global perspective on local issues.
How does being active on LinkedIn help in your career or business?
“LinkedIn opens doors. And LinkedIn could keep doors open.” — Ben Ampil
In terms of making your personal brand known in the marketplace, LinkedIn promotes one’s brand on a global scale. I cannot emphasize enough the importance and relevance of developing a network/community that is global in its depth and breadth.
The Covid Crisis has more than ever the power of “virtual connectivity”. Meetings and Presentations (Webinars) done over virtual platforms (like Zoom) have never been more important as now. And if one’s LinkedIn Network is purely-local in its reach, one is not maximizing the Business Opportunities beyond our local borders. I have done Webinars and Podcasts for audiences in the United States, Britain, Australia, and even otherwise “hard-to-reach” countries like Morocco and Greece. And the list is growing… thanks to the challenges of the present time!
LinkedIn also allows one to bypass “Gatekeepers” and communicate directly with Decision-Makers. Before LinkedIn, my Sales Strategy was basically a “Push”, which could be equated with the activity of “Hunting”. I was pursuing my Prospects by sending them emails and requesting for meetings. With LinkedIn, my Sales Strategy transformed to that of a “Pull”, which could be equated with “Fishing”. As my Personal Brand is now quite known, Individuals and Companies here and abroad are now the ones reaching out to me. My “Bait” is simply to remain consistent with my Brand, keep my Messaging Focused and Clear, and continue to provide Relevant and Value-Adding Content to the Marketplace.
So in terms of Business Development, LinkedIn has increased my Revenue Base by expanding my Community on a Global Scale. And LinkedIn has also decreased my Expense Base by enabling me to market economically and more-effectively, leveraging the internet and the universality of the challenges faced by all Nationalities and Nations… because of Covid.

What do you use LinkedIn for?
(1) To learn and get inspiration from others. Since I became active in LinkedIn during the lockdown – it has helped me mentally, emotionally to survive this crisis, and at the same time grow intellectually with different people. I’ve created so many connections since then.
It started with my coaching session with Coach Virginia Bautista – where she shifted my perspective towards LinkedIn – from a CV-page to a networking platform where I can get inspiration and learnings from different people, while at the same time growing our business. It’s an overall platform and I’m never looking back.
(2) To share my authentic thoughts and stories. At first, it takes me an hour or even a day to post – because I was so focused on thinking how I can best please my followers. Then I stumbled upon Gary Vaynerchuk where he said “Just post, it doesn’t matter if you get zero like.”
So I did. Being authentic is the ultimate way to get into the hearts of others – because they can feel it. Without any expectation of getting traction, I always get surprised and happy whenever I get comments or personal messages from others that my thoughts/ stories have inspired them.
“Being authentic is the ultimate way to get into the hearts of others – because they can feel it.” — Laraine Zyreen Marcelo
(3) To upskill. I’m a huge fan of LinkedIn Learning. Last August, I’ve posted my 20-certification accomplishments in 1 month – and received so many personal messages from different people telling me how it has inspired them, and even asking for some tips!
So far, I’ve completed 70 courses now. And will continue to do so. Hopefully, my ongoing learning journey will continue to inspire others – just like how others are inspiring me to keep on making progress.
How does being active on LinkedIn help in your career or business?
(1) It kept our business afloat during this crisis. We were in a training business for 15 years – with ZERO marketing effort. We have an FB page and a website – but we weren’t maximizing it because business had been going so well – we’re surpassing our targets annually. Then COVID happened. We needed to shift to digital. Then, we found our way on LinkedIn. With millions of professionals in the platform – by being active in it through optimizing our pages and posting daily, it helped us build our online brand, and find new clients and reconnect with the old ones.
(2) It helped me build my personal brand. Jumpstarting it through my coaching session with Coach Virgina Bautista and applying all tips and techniques that I got from her, and from my connections in the platform, I was able to be part of the Marketing in Asia Rising 70 list. Not just that, but I was able to get to know personally different leaders and professionals from all over the world!
(3) It has helped me find, connect with, learn and have meaningful conversations with highly-influential leaders/ personalities. I’m currently the producer of #TheHELLOWorldPodcast – a podcast channel that aims to bring people together in one virtual world and share information, inspiration, and influence each other. As of October 2020, we already have 17 episode guests – and all came from LinkedIn!
(4) Through LinkedIn Learning, I was able to learn how to manage and perform Finance and Accounting. We needed to shift to a smaller team – and I had to take over Finance and Accounting (a function that I least likely see myself doing) – having taken around 10-15 courses about the function – I have become more knowledgeable and confident about performing the role (without needing to undergo a 4-year course). Another plus was I’ve connected with different finance people in the platform, and have been learning a lot from their posts.

What do you use LinkedIn for?
I use if for attracting potential clients, client outreach, impacting lives, and career-building.
How does being active on LinkedIn help in your career or business?
LinkedIn is a platform for me to showcase our talents as Filipinos in the global market, and my team is doing our best to create possibilities. This is the primary channel that I use for prospective client outreach. I use LinkedIn as a channel to inspire our workforce. This community expands my reach, leading to impactful one to one conversations. LinkedIn has been instrumental in my career. When I started to invest time and effort in learning about maximizing LinkedIn’s full potential, it yields sustainable results in my career. I educate my network on how the LinkedIn community can help them build their careers, attract opportunities, and nurture relationships.
“While others are having some challenges finding jobs during the pandemic, I am surprised and blessed that I attracted several career opportunities on LinkedIn, even during these challenging times. I didn’t proactively apply – I attracted them on LinkedIn, and this is just amazing! So I want to share the knowledge that they can tap into the LinkedIn platform, that investing time in learning about the inbound marketing methodology will give them sure results. There are countless opportunities out there. They just need to be found on LinkedIn.” – John Morickson Motilla
LinkedIn gave me an opportunity to have a broader influence in my role so that I can help more people in their careers; at the same time, it builds my credibility to prospective clients – as they will have knowledge that I know the industry, I started as an associate and did my best to become a senior leader in my field.
As a result, I was able to fulfill my dreams, my parents’ dreams and my aspirations in life without working outside the country. This is possible now in the Philippines as long as you have the right set of skills, a growth mindset, and you know how to leverage LinkedIn to your advantage. This can happen to you too. You just need to start now.

LinkedIn has been an integral part of my professional agility and development through the years.
How does being active on LinkedIn help in your career or business?
Ways to learn and be updated come in various forms. In the past, I would normally go to conferences, seminars, or sit down with someone I know for mentoring. Until I realized that in today’s open and fluid on-line environment one can develop and grow professionally through active exchange of thoughts and ideas with another practitioner coming from other parts of the world.
LinkedIn is an environment where you can exchange ideas, share your thoughts, have access to resources, or simply just reach out and along the way gain access to additional or new knowledge, insights, perspectives, etc. And the more you engage, the more you gain. Its professional environment also connotes maturity and quality of insights available from within the LinkedIn Community and it helps progress ones thinking.

Given my understanding of the woes of workers and the experience working as a strategic partner in the companies I worked with, I believe I was in the best position to share. Other than Mental Health topics, I have speaking engagements averaging two engagements per month. The diverse work I do plus the multiple clients kept me busy.
What do you use LinkedIn for?
LinkedIn has been extremely helpful in keeping me abreast of the current trends and practices, not just in HR but business/organization, in general. An immensely helpful avenue for continuous learning with the help of LinkedIn Training.
The opportunity to hear Speakers from other countries is greatly appreciated and valued. I have earned certifications during lockdown. The presence of LinkedIn created an avenue for continuous growth despite the pandemic.
LinkedIn kept me connected to former colleagues. This made my network so varied and valuable even if the number is just over 5000. They came from multiple industries and the knowledge that they are just a message away made the world truly smaller than it truly is.
How does being active on LinkedIn help in your career or business?
LinkedIn helped me establish credibility as a Speaker in Mental Health. My numerous engagements were via LinkedIn connections as well. In my work in the staffing and recruiting industry, the established network was multi-industry and has proven to be amazingly effective in sourcing candidates.
Lastly, LinkedIn made it possible for me to reach out to others who need help. It provided an opportunity for me to assist others at no cost to them.

What do you use LinkedIn for?
I started to be active on LinkedIn to help people and spread positivity. I woke up one day in August 2020 and realized that the world and especially the Philippines had turned very negative.
We’re in the midst of the Covid Pandemic and unemployment was at a record high. Wherever I went on social media, I encountered extreme negativity. God has blessed me and protected me throughout my life and especially in 2020. I maintained a good career, excellent finances, and great health. Initially I decided to make use of LinkedIn to help unemployed Filipinos land a career. However, I realized I can use it also to inspire and teach life lessons.

Through LinkedIn, I have been able to reach out to many people which has resulted in over 12 Filipinos landing a career since August 2020. All these I was able to help for free.
Work wise, for my full-time work with Advance Tech Lending, LinkedIn has helped us increase our brand to a wider audience of Filipinos. It helps us establish our presence in the financial industry.
